Enhancing Disaster Risk Reduction Capacity in Thailand
USAID's Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, through a $650,000 grant to the International Federation of the Red Cross, plans to enhance the capacity of Thai Red Cross Society (TRCS) to reduce disaster risk and build community resilience in Thailand by strengthening geographical information systems, disaster risk reduction planning, and preparedness for effective response. The award will focus on: 1. Development and expansion of the GIS application to support multi hazards and wider geographical areas of the GIS application in 67 new provinces, in addition to the existing 10 provinces, to ensure coverage of the whole country; 2. Strengthen the capacity of TRCS on Preparedness for Effective Response; and 3. Implementation of Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR) and School Based Disaster Risk Reduction (SBDRR) interventions in ten disaster-prone communities and schools in three provinces.
