Under the BHA-supported Scaling Community Engagement for Next Generation DRM in Indonesia and the program, Yayasan PetaBenaca (Disaster Mapping Foundation) a local Indonesian NGO, developed a real-time disaster warning system for communities in Indonesia’s capital city of Jakarta, as well as in urban areas of the Philippines.

WG 3 on Digital Data of APIS action plan 2022-2026 focuses on strengthening digital data creation, transition to open format, storing, maintaining, use, and integration with other data sources, such as satellite-geospatial data, real-time internet of things and statistical data.

Can we work together better to seize this opportunity of a lifetime within the lifetime of the opportunity?” Ms. Tiziana Bonapace, Director of Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction Division at ESCAP, highlighted the importance of consistent investments in ICT infrastructure and multilateral cooperation for seamless digital connectivity and digital transformation at the “Digital Almaty Forum” on 5 February 2021.

Asia and the Pacific has been going through a fundamental transformation induced by digital technology and connectivity. The region has been a driving force of such digital transformation - be it artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, cloud computing or blockchain.
